How to Achieve Good Child Behavior

There isn’t a parent in the world who doesn’t expect good child behavior, especially when their kids are out in public. It is not only embarrassing to parents when a child behaves poorly when they go out somewhere but it oftentimes ruins the day for everyone else around.

Nearly everyone has experienced screaming kids in the grocery store or a child who runs rampart in a restaurant or other venue. This type of behavior should be thwarted immediately. You can follow these simple good parenting tips to ensure good child behavior in your family.

Playing to Learn

Playtime is a wonderful way to enhance the child parent relationships. It is also a great way to teach your kids about proper child behavior. Use your imagination to create a variety of situations that might tempt your children to misbehave and act them out together.

You could set up your kitchen counters and table with a variety of items that you would see in the grocery store. Be sure to include items that would normally tempt your child such as cookies, gum, candy and other treats. Walk through the “aisles” and collect some of the products but leave the other items alone.

If your child asks, whines or begs for one of the sweets, you should tell him that you are not “buying” that product today. Should your child not immediately accept your decision to leave the treats behind, you will need to correct the unwanted child behavior promptly. You can get down to the child’s level so you have eye contact with him. Firmly tell him that the behavior he is exhibiting is unacceptable and that you will not tolerate it.

You should continue shopping unless he is still being a problem. If the bad behavior continues, simply take him by the hand and leave the store without anything.
